NIGERIA FORMAL FIRST LADY IS DEAD

Former Nigeria's First Lady and wife of Major-General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe (J.T.U.) Aguiyi-Ironsi, Nigeria’s first military head of state, Chief Mrs. Victoria Nwanyiocha Aguiyi-Ironsi , is dead. She reportedly died in the early hours of Monday, aged 97. Born on November 21, 1923, she was the second First Lady of Nigeria from January 16, 1966, to July 29, 1996, when her husband was assassinated in a counter military coup carried out by Nigerian military officers of Northern extraction. Aguiyi-Ironsi was killed in Ibadan in the countercoup led by Murtala Muhammed and which led to the installation of then Colonel Yakubu Gowon as head of state. Reflecting on her life after the gruesome murder of her husband in an interview with The Guardian newspaper on June 3, 2016, she said. “The truth is that 29th of July this year will be 50 years since my husband was killed. Kogi state shocking news, a must read news

Following the recent attacks and unrest in Plateau, the Kogi state government has successfully evacuated its indigenes studying at the University of Jos and other institutions in the State. Mr Muhammed Onogwu, Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Adoza Yahaya Bello disclosed this in a statement on Saturday. According to Onogwu , the students were evacuated from Plateau State following the immediate directives from Bello and were escorted with security personnel. The state evacuated students from other states like Ebonyi, Benue, Nasarawa, FCT among others. Nasarawa State Police Command Arrest Suspected criminal

Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a suspected criminal who has been on the wanted list of the police  for armed robbery and Kidnapping.  This is contained in a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ramhan Nansel in Lafia . According  to the statement the suspect, Likita Abubakar aged 35 was arrested  following a tip off  indicating that he was  sighted at Alushi Junction in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state. It also notes  that 53 empty magazines, 260 rounds of live ammunition and cash sum of #38,500 was recovered from the suspect. The statement indicates that the State  Commissioner of Police Mr. Adesina Soyemi had ordered the transfer of the case to State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia for thorough investigations.
